Ashford Stud stallions Giant’s Causeway (Storm Cat) and Johannesburg (Hennessy) will shuttle to Argentina’s Haras La Mission for the upcoming Southern Hemisphere breeding season, Coolmore officials confirmed yesterday.
Giant’s Causeway had previously shuttled to Australia, but remained in Kentucky the past two winters. Johannesburg, whose oldest progeny are four, travelled to Coolmore’s Jerry’s Plains property from 2003, but returned to the U.S. in mid-September last year after covering only 20 mares due to the EI outbreak.
Johannesburg’s sire Hennessy died of an apparent heart attack at Haras La Mission last year. The pair will be joined Coolmore’s Gr1 2000 Guineas winner Footstepsinthesand (Ire) (Giant’s Causeway), who stood at Coolmore Australia in 2005 and 2006.
