BATTLESTAR EXPRESS : The little Dynamo wins again

megan romeynMegan RomeynAlthough much of this last weekend’s attention was focused on the R1,25million Emperors Palace Ready To Run Cup and the R600,000 Charity Mile, a son of Summerhill super sire Muhtafal, BATTLESTAR EXPRESS, was not the least deterred. He put in another hugely impressive performance in the Golden Loom Sprint (Listed) to confirm his growing stature as a top-class sprinter.

Running without blinkers on the instincts of top jockey Anton Marcus, BATTLESTAR EXPRESS was competitive from the jump, moving up a gear and winning easily by two lengths.

This is the seventh win from 16 starts for this little dynamo trained by Gauteng based trainer, Karen Anthony.

“FAVOURITE FILLIES”

Thokozani Dlungwane Thokozani Dlungwane has been a part of the Summerhill Ready To Run team for many years and has turned out some outstanding race horses. He has a natural ability when it comes to schooling these youngsters and it shows on the race tracks all over South Africa. Over the last couple of years he’s ridden the likes of Tap Tap, Ithala and Fork Lightening.

Thokozani knows what to look for in a top Ready To Run horse and opted to school and breeze last years winner of the EMPERORS PALACE READY TO RUN CUP, UMNGAZI (by Muhtafal).

The second of Thokozani’s “top 2 fillies” for this year’s draft is KWELA-KWELA.

KWELA-KWELA (meaning pennywhistle) is by Muhtafal, out of Coastal mare, Siren Song.

KWELA-KWELA is a sister to MZWILILI (2 wins including the Pretty Polly Stakes G3) and ITHALA (4 wins including the Syringa Handicap L) and is from the family of this year’s G1 CANON GOLD CUP winner, DESERT LINKS.
