Things are hotting up for the CTS Emperors Palace Ready To Run Sale, and from the traffic to our website, it’s clear that public interest in what’s “cooking” on the farm, is as brisk as ever.

Those who know the drill here, will remember that at this time of year the horses are at different stages of their development and are working in batches, which means that not all of them have been tested yet for what they have to offer. Meanwhile though, there’ve been some stand-out performances on the tracks so far from the more advanced sorts, on which our riders have been happy to share their views. Here’s a list of the early “chalks” from the work schedules:

LOT 16 PROPOSITION (VISIONAIRE x WYSIWYG) COLT
LOT 50 WEMIBONO (VISIONAIRE x CITIDANCER) COLT
LOT 57 ONE DIMENSION (VISIONAIRE x DEA DIA) FILLY
LOT 61 GENESIS (AWAIT THE DAWN x DIGNIFY) COLT
LOT 65 PEACOCK PIE (VISIONAIRE x DUBAI JEWEL) COLT
LOT 73 FINAL CHANCE (VISIONAIRE x ENROUTE TO HEAVEN) COLT
LOT 99 HERO’S HONOUR (AWAIT THE DAWN X GRAIL MAIDEN) COLT
LOT 125 BRAVO ZULU (BRAVE TIN SOLDIER x LONDOLOZA) COLT
LOT 151 GO THULI GO (BRAVE TIN SOLDIER x NKANDLA) FILLY
LOT 153 STAR OF KAZAN (VISIONAIRE x NOJOOM) COLT
LOT 162 BORN IN PARADISE (PHILANTHROPIST x PARADISE ALLEY) FILLY
LOT 178 GENERAL MAO (VISIONAIRE x RAZY WELLS) COLT
LOT 193 FU MANCHU (VISIONAIRE x SECRET EMBLEM) COLT
LOT 205 DECISION TIME (AWAIT THE DAWN x SOPHIE’S CHOICE) COLT
LOT 213 RIGHT IN THE SCRUM (BRAVE TIN SOLDIER x STARRY-EYED) COLT

Encouraging are the early signs from the Classically bred Await The Dawn. We’re quickly reminded however, that none of Igugu (Vodacom Durban July and J&B Met); Pierre Jordan and Smanjemanje (both runners-up in the Vodacom Durban July); Equus Champion Bold Ellinore; Gold Cup winners Desert Links and Cereus; J&B Met ace La Fabulous, Guineas hero and Jay Peg’s nemesis, Dynamite Mike, and the multiple Group One-performing millionaires Catmandu and Emperor Napoleon, would have been cited at this stage either; so if you’re looking for pointers for the big sale, keep glued on this space. Which only pricks our memories: “There’s a horse for everyone at the Ready To Run”. And that’s why “the good eye” is often at an advantage at a sale like this over the big chequebook.
