A new national body, Racing Australia, has been formed Down Under.

Racing Australia merges three key national functions - the Australian Racing Board, Racing Information Services Australia and the Australian Stud Book - into a single entity. The delivery of the organizations' services will remain the same, while the movement will consolidate the databases of the industry. The shareholders of Racing Australia are the eight principal racing authorities representing each state and territory, and Racing NSW Chairman John Messara was elected chairman of Racing Australia by his fellow directors at the inaugural board meeting April 13.

"The formation of Racing Australia promises to be an exciting period for the industry," Messara said. "There is enormous scope to better utilize the industry's combined assets for the benefit of industry participants. The integration of the databases will significantly enhance integrity and transparency and a number of initiatives in this regard will be announced in coming months. Racing Australia represents a long-held desire by the Australian racing industry for greater unity and cohesion between jurisdictions. I believe that the goodwill which brought Racing Australia about will see it serve the interests of the industry into the future."
