The Cape’s most prestigious racing event, The L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate will, for the first time ever, feature in a premier English equestrian occasion, Glorious Goodwood, on Friday 1 August 2014, when The L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate Stakes thunders down the track at Sussex Downs Racecourse.

Earlier this year, Glorious Goodwood’s Peninsula Stakes Grade 2 race featured in the 153rd running of The Queen’s Plate at Kenilworth Racecourse in Cape Town and, as such, LQP’s journey to Glorious Goodwood is the next step in an intercontinental exchange that pays testament to South Africa’s international standard of horse-racing.

“The L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate and Glorious Goodwood are much anticipated and exciting racing and social events on their respective continents, so this association is sure to enhance the already exceptional horse-racing and hospitality standards for which both are renowned,” says The L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate coordinator, Katherine Gray.

In addition, LQP will also make its presence felt alongside the track with a special blue and white L’Ormarins Luncheon and an exclusive LQP Best Dressed Competition exchange.

The L’Ormarins Luncheon will bring South Africa to the world with signature items - such as an Ostrich Egg Cocktail and LQP Ice-Cream - and will also feature The L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate’s Best Dressed Competition.

This Best Dressed Competition will be reserved exclusively for guests dressed in blue and white and, in addition to various other extraordinary prizes, the winner and a partner will be jetted off to South Africa in January to attend The L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate on January, 10th 2015. In turn, the winner of The L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate 2015 Best Dressed Competition will travel to Britain with a partner to attend the 2015 running of Glorious Goodwood.

“The L’Ormarins Luncheon and Best Dressed Competition exchange will take the elegance and glamour of The L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate to the world and we look forward to welcoming many distinguished international guests to our next running,” adds Katherine Gray.

The L’Ormarins Queens Plate Stakes will be run on Friday, 1 August - the fourth day of Glorious Goodwood - while Cape Town’s foremost horse-racing and summer calendar event, The L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate, will return to Kenilworth Racecourse for its 154th running on Saturday, 10th January 2015.

The field for Glorious Goodwood’s Group 3 L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate Stakes (registered as The Oak Tree Stakes) goes to post at 17:50 local time.
