Despite mixing it with the best over the past two seasons, full black type has eluded No Worries, however the KwaZulu-Natal visitor finally put the record straight with a gutsy victory in the Grade 2 Joburg Spring Challenge Saturday at Turffontein.

Sprinter Midnight Run, making his debut for the Mike Bass stable, reluctantly carved out the early fractions with No Worries in close attendance.

At the quarter mark, jockey Keagan de Melo set No Worries alight and the pair surged into the lead to go a length or so clear. Midnight Run was not done for though and fought back gallantly for one late lunge at the line, but the Gavin van Zyl runner kept finding more to claim victory by a neck. The first two finished well clear of veteran Snowdon, who found his best stride late to shade Heart Of A Lion on the line.

The winner has enjoyed mixed fortunes in graded stakes company since he was denied a Gr.1 victory in the Grade 1 Daily News 2000, where subsequent champion Vercingetorix beat him by the flare of a nostril. Last season, his most lucrative pay day came at the now defunct Clairwood, where he outclassed his rivals in the restricted Million Rand KwaZulu-Natal Million Mile, prior to finishing third behind Futura in the Grade 1 Beach Beauty Champions Cup at Greyville.

Rested for two months, the newly-turned five-year-old prepped for this event with a creditable third at Scottsville and as a newly-minted stakes winner, has finally rewarded the patience of owner Brian Burnard, for whom he has now earned over R1.7-million in stakes.

Bred at Summerhill, No Worries is a graduate of the farm's Summer Ready To Run Sale and is one of 35 stakes winners sired by former resident stallion KahalThe gelding is one of two winners out of Coastal Waltz, who counted the Listed Jockey Club Stakes amongst her 11-win tally. She is a half-sister to Grade 3 Tony Ruffel Stakes third Coastal Rock (Albarahin) and to the smart, stakes-placed stayer Dolomite (Labeeb).
