EMPERORS PALACE READY TO RUN CUP

Turffontein, South Africa

2 November 2013

The richest race on yesterday’s Charity Mile race day at Turffontein, the R3-million Emperors Palace Ready To Run Cup, was an excellent advertisement for the Emperors Palace Ready To Run Sale taking place at the TBA Sales Grounds in Germiston over the weekend.

Winter Star (Solskjaer - Winter Dimension), trained by the youthful Johan Janse van Vuuren, landed a winning cheque of R1.25-million for owner Vicky Veeramootoo of Mauritius - who bought the filly on last year’s sale for just R100,000.

Driven on from the irons by Glen Hatt, the three-year-old Summerhill-bred overhauled fellow Summerhill-bred Mount Hillaby (Mullins Bay - Hill Of Plenty), trained by Dominic Zaki and ridden by Fanie Chambers, who looked the likely winner 250m out.

The second-placed Mount Hillaby was purchased for R80,000 on last year’s Ready To Run sale and landed a prize of R600,000, while third-placed Judicial cost R260,000 and delivered his owners a purse of R400,000 on the day.
