Mucho Macho Man (Macho Uno) suffered a heart-breaking loss to Fort Larned (E Dubai) last year at Santa Anita, but made amends with a stirring nose defeat of Will Take Charge (Unbridled’s Song) is yesterday’s Breeders’ up Classic G1. The European invader Declaration of War (War Front) ran a very strong third.

Coming off an overwhelming victory in the local GI Awesome Again Stakes September 28, Mucho Macho Man was in good mid-pack position by veteran jockey Gary Stevens as Fort Larned and favored Game On Dude (Awesome Again) set legitimate fractions. The latter was pushed on to keep up on the turn, and it was clear that Mucho Macho Man, rallying wide, was going to be tough to beat.

The Kathy Ritvo-trained Mucho Macho Man took a clear advantage in the lane as Declaration of War, on his wrong lead, gave game chase, but it was the hard-charging 3-year-old Will Take Charge who necessitated a photo to decide it.
