EMPERORS PALACE READY TO RUN GALLOPS
Summerhill Stud, South Africa
11 October 2013
Any man whose career with us kicked off cleaning stables and operating a brushcutter, and who can claim to have risen to the top of our workriders ranks with only five years under the pump, has to possess God-given talents. We’ve always said the Zulus are the most naturally endowed stockmen we know, but when the good Lord was handing out “horsemanship”, this fellow must’ve been in the front of the queue. It wasn’t long before he’d demonstrated a natural empathy with the ponies, and it was his fortune to be among men with an eye for these things, who quickly harnessed him into the handling and then the riding of horses. The history books tell us these fellows have tutored at least twenty top riders from scratch, and Bongani ranks with the best of them. He makes his “fast” work debut at the gallops this year, and there’ll be more than a few judges who’ll raise their eyebrows. For what it’s worth, here are his selections of the most likely sorts to make the cut for next year’s R3million Emperors Palace Ready To Run Cup:
Lot 131: Raise and Double (Kahal x Deal A Double) Chestnut Filly
Lot 131: Raise and Double (Kahal x Deal A Double)
Here’s a filly with the “works”: attractive, well-balanced, her zippy style has caught every bystander’s attention at the tracks, and she has the presence of one that knows she’s the product of aristocracy.
Lot 126: Bristol Bulldog (AP Arrow x Crescent Star) Bay Colt
Lot 126: Bristol Bulldog (AP Arrow x Crescent Star)
A bull of a colt with an eye-catching style, he literally skips across the ground. His dam has been threatening to throw a “big one” for a while now, denied only by the cruel intervention of injury to two highly regarded colts. Descended from royalty, bred by royalty, he’s your passport to a page in Debretts.
