EMPERORS PALACE READY TO RUN GALLOPS

Summerhill Stud, South Africa

11 October 2013

Who would’ve thought a young man practising para-medicine in Bruntville township six years ago, would’ve led the world as the top practical student in 2012 at the English National Stud? Such a man is Thabani Nzimande, who’s part of the spine of this place, a contributor in the true sense of the word to Summerhill’s sustained reign at the summit of breeding, despite the odds. When Thabani’s around, the old Summerhill adage “When the family is strong, it doesn’t need reunions to remember its purpose”, is never truer.

He knows his way to the number one box too, and he has a legion of followers among our Ready To Run clients. Here are his thoughts on the top colt and filly for the forthcoming Emperors Palace Ready To Run Sale:

Rock Of Gibraltar has been an international celebrity for some years now, yet he’s never been more successful anywhere than he’s been in South Africa. If you can get your hands on a “Rock” these days, grab it with both, and never let go. Local celebrities include Eagle Mountain, Seventh Rock and Gibraltar Blue, to name a few, and Rich Girl comes from his final Australian crop, that means this is last opportunity for South Africans to buy one of his progeny at public auction. We’ve taken a couple of them to sales over the years, but we’ve never taken a better looking filly than this one. Her picture on our website speaks for itself, and her gallop tells the rest of the story.

There is not a soul in Johannesburg who doesn’t know the name Cookie Monster, the outright favourite of his much lamented late owner, Wally Brits. This is a half-brother in much the same mould, though with the easy flowing style of his own sire, Admire Main. Many “gongs” have fallen to this family over the years, and if our instincts are right, you can expect a few more for this fellow.
