EMPERORS PALACE READY TO RUN GALLOPS

Summerhill Stud, South Africa

11 October 2013

The recipient of a Summerhill International Scholarship to the USA in 2011, he impressed his mentor, Becky Thomas, as an outstanding riding talent. Thabiso has just completed a stint in Ireland, where he threw his leg over the charges of some of the leading trainers in that part of the world. Let it be said though, if Becky Thomas thinks you’re alright, you’re alright: she has a well-deserved reputation as one of the smartest “pickers” in the game, and she’s up there with the best consignors on the American breeze-up circuit. Gifted hands and an unflappable temperament have equipped this young man with all the skills needed to educate hot- blooded thoroughbreds, and he’s been associated with some of the best at Summerhill in recent years. There are more than a few of our customers at Summerhill who swear by his predictions, so it’s worth knowing what he thinks:

Lot 223: Kosava (Kahal x Nordic Air) Bay Filly

“Building families” is one of the things we do here with both our people and our horses, and family-building has been a material contributor to our nine consecutive breeder’s championship. This family’s been at the heart of our endeavours, and in Kosava, we have a sister to two champions, Icy Air and Ice Axe, this time by one of the nation’s most successful sires. She’d be an investment just for her paydock value, but when you’ve seen her on the track, you’ll know there’s little separating her at this stage from her illustrious siblings.

Lot 104: Intandokazi (AUS) (Encosta De Lago x Bella Princess) Bay Colt

Lot 104: Intandokazi (AUS) (Encosta De Lago x Bella Princess)

Lot 104: Intandokazi (AUS) (Encosta De Lago x Bella Princess)

The Zulu translation for Intandokazi is “favourite”, appropriate enough for a son of Australia’s most successful home-grown stallion of all-time. It wasn’t long ago that Encosta De Lago was standing for a stud fee beyond the $200,000 mark (yes, it means more than R2million a jump!), and yet there’s no guarantee when you pay the fee, you’ll get a decent individual. This time, there’s no such risk: this is a classy, full-bodied individual, and he runs like he knows he carries the expectations of Australia on his shoulders.
