EMPERORS PALACE READY TO RUN GALLOPS
Summerhill Stud, South Africa
11 October 2013
Most of our readers know Annet as one of the game’s most astute professionals. After graduating from Onderstepoort, she did her time in charge of the high care unit at one of the world’s great farms, Juddmonte, then joined Team Summerhill seven years ago where, among other things, the Broodmare and Foalcare divisions fall under her. She is among the School of Management Excellence’s most respected lecturers as well, and she knows what a good racehorse looks like, so we should all be listening. These are her selections for this year’s Ready To Run Sale:
Lot 213: Flying Cross (Brave Tin Soldier x Mumtazah) Bay Filly
Lot 213: Flying Cross (Brave Tin Soldier x Mumtazah)
Another from Brave Tin Soldier’s first crop that’s raising eyebrows on the gallops; in her case, it’s hardly surprising. Her mother is a daughter of the world’s greatest stallion, Galileo, out of a Stakes-winning daughter of Elusive Quality. Coupled with the regal origins of history’s most expensive foal, Brave Tin Soldier, who took his Stakes-winning juvenile class to a record-breaking performance at a mile as an older horse, you’d expect she’d be good, and there’ll be more than a few in our team who’ll tell you she is.
Lot 161: Petrichor (AP Arrow x Guest Gallery) Chestnut Colt
Lot 161: Petrichor (AP Arrow x Guest Gallery)
The A.P. Arrows have an elegant, classic look to them, and here’s one who combines both those elements with a great attitude to his work, and a long flowing action. It’s hard to differentiate between the A.P. Arrows this year: there are any number that make getting out of bed in the mornings worthwhile, and he’s one of the picks.
