We’re not sure what the temperature’s like in places like Joburg and Cape Town, but in our neck of the woods, it seems as if everyone bears a reverence for Igugu, the R1 million graduate of the 2009 Summerhill draft at the Emperors Palace Ready To Run Sale. The “farm” trifecta is made up of the ruling favourite Igugu, together with two other Ready To Run graduates in Pierre Jourdan and Black Wing, currently quoted at 10-1 and 50-1 respectively. For R24, you can cover the lot, and while that may be a sentimental bet, they’re all in great shape, and you might have to contend with the dilemma as to whether to take early retirement or not if it comes off! You know about Igugu and Pierre Jourdan from these columns, and it’s already well known that Black Wing may be the “lurker” among the three year olds.

Black Wing gets a kilo from those to whom he finished within a length in the Daily News 2000 (Gr1), and the Julys over 2200m, where a kilo can amount to anything from a length to a length and a half. It might just be enough to tip the scales.

If you’re looking for “connectivity”, Denis and Gael Evans, owners of Run For It, are lodging with us at Hartford House. He’s second favourite.

So maybe box the four of them, and don’t forget the quartet.
