GIANT’S CAUSEWAY : THE IRON HORSE
Champion sire in the United States at the end of 2009, the man they used to call the “Iron Horse” has gotten off to an even better start in 2010. On Saturday, Giant’s Causeway sired the winners of two of America’s principal Kentucky Derby trials, Eskendereya, a five length winner of the time-honoured Fountain Of Youth Stakes (Gr.2) and Connemara, who overcame a tardy start in the El Camino Real Derby (Gr.3) at Golden Gate, to win by an increasing 1,25 lengths. But it didn’t stop there, as Northern Giant earned a cheque in the Risen Star Stakes (Gr.2) at the Fairgrounds Oval, providing the premier stallion with a triplet of classic contenders in a single weekend.
