Rose LeheupWhilst In S.A. we are hoping to pop to the farms, Arc en Ciel and Summerhill to see our babies. Discover Diamonds has had a colt by the imposing ex Ballydoyle, Solskjaer. We finally decided that we would match her speed and go for a sprinter. Not a decision I took lightly as I never want to breed speed horses, I know I go against the trend but I am not known for my fashion sense, as those that witnessed the pheasant hat on my head at Greyville one memorable year can testify to! I happen to love my stayers, they give years of pleasure and there is always hope with a stayer that they will improve the next year. Sprinters are like morning glory flowers, there one minute and gone the next. We love our stayers over here and they become public heroes. Not easy to train and keep fit and willing to work every day but you have a master of that in Mike Bass so come on people breed a few more. I hope we can get up to see Mickey Goss and his fantastic team and set up at Summerhill as it is always an educational pleasure, not just to learn from Mick about horses, racing and breeding but for his incredible knowledge of the Battles that took place up in the most beautiful Midlands. Mick as I am sure most of you know is a fantastic narrator of stories and one of the most interesting people I have ever met. He has opened my eyes to the History of the area and his love of the local people and on his farm shines through the whole establishment. They truly are a team and deserve all their success. Every person is important on that farm and many businesses would do well to look at Summerhill to see how a co-operative really does work. Our livery fees are well spent at Summerhill as our prized possessions are beautifully cared for and their owners are treated just as superbly!
