Settlers Trophy (Listed)
The Settlers Trophy (Listed) over 2400m went off without a hitch at Durbanville yesterday after falling victim to adverse weather conditions in Cape Town last weekend.
This is what Ken Nicol had to say in the Sporing Post earlier in the week :
“Sun City may well thrive back over this trip, and would be a wafer thin first choice in a treacherous appearing handicap. The 5 year-old Kahal gelding has done well since joining Dean Kannemeyer, being involved in the finish in all of his last four. He has a nice turn of foot, and won at this track as recently as the end of June. Already a victor over this trip, he has shown definite improvement since a no show in this race a year ago, and seems effective on all types of ground. He should be right there, and will present some nice each way value. Sun City has finished strongly in recent appearances, and may well thrive back over this genuine test of stamina. He should certainly be getting into the fray late with a handy 56,5kg, and has genuine winning prospects.”
If you watched the race, you would have seen the son of Kahal, out of Blushing Summer, looking a picture of calm under jockey MJ Byleveld, content to amble at the back of the pack for most of the trip. When he hit the 300m mark, the full brother to Majestic Sun engaged overdrive and burned up the track to dismiss Sudden Storm, Golden Parachute, Sangria Girl and Frusk.
