The great thing about horseracing is its ever-moving kaleidoscope of activities, and the fact that new history is being made every day. The arrival of new horses at Summerhill always generates its own excitement, but the temperature rises to new levels when something special happens. Today is one of those days, as we had sons and daughters of some of the worlds pre-eminent stallions alight from Australia. Three Galileo’s, two Royal Academy’s, and sons of the champion sires Flying Spur and Rock of Gibraltar make up what is best described as a formidable assembly of youngsters, destined for this years Emperors Palace Ready To Run sale.
It’s hardly believable, spectacularly bred as these horses are, that a sale once seen by some as a dumping ground should have emerged in recent times, to become the premier source, pound-for-pound, of the Nation’s Stakes performers. This season alone, the exceptional likes of Imbongi, Catmandu, Emperor Napoleon, Bold Ellinore, Desert Links, Galant Gagnant, Ithala, Umngazi, Mzwilili, Regal Runner and Thekkady. Graded Stakes heroes the lot, have emerged as graduates of this sale, and while you might well say you’ve heard it all before, when the catalogue for this edition is released in August, we’ll let you be the judge. Certainly, from our perspective, we don’t believe we’ve ever approached anything like it.
