The R42 000 Ready To Run sale acquisition, Hear The Drums, scooted to his 20th victory on Friday afternoon for Peter Fabricius and Des Maclachlan, in the process becoming the East Cape’s first equine millionaire.

Though he had to defer this year to his Summerhill-bred and raised stablemate, Paris Perfect, for Horse Of The Year honours (it made no odds to the connections, as Peter’s wife, Gail, is the Paris Perfect connection) these two together with Brigadier Parker (a R45 000 Ready To Run purchase from Summerhill) comprise three of the last four East Cape Horses Of The Year.

Hear The Drums was bred by Robbie Byrne’s Equisoft Syndicate (of Ireland) in conjunction with Summerhill, out of the Stakes-winning Gallic League mare, Winning Glory, whose three-year-old daughter, Eternal Glory, made an eye-catching debut for the Gary Alexander stable at Turffontein on Saturday, coming from last on the sticky track to very nearly make the money under Mark Khan. The connections were more than happy with the effort, and have ambitious plans.
