Last night’s racing at Greyville illuminated some promising talent and once again Lady Luck gave us a few winks…
Up and coming young colt Hambile showed the rest of the field a clean pair of heels, when he won the Maiden Plate over 1200m at Greyville last night. After jumping smartly, this son of Muhtafal never looked troubled, and confidently kept his early lead to win easily by four lengths. He is owned by one of our American based clients Mrs. Bernice Applegreen and bred by our long time friend and client, Pierre du Toit.
Meanwhile the First Lady of South African racing, Mrs. Bridget Oppenheimer tasted success in the Merit Rated 76 over 1600 m when her colt, Patrol Boat out of Strike Smartly won comfortably. Never looking troubled he led from the front with confidence and was looked in complete command going away to win comfortably.
In the last race, yet another graduate of the Summerhill Ready To Run 2005 programme, Catmandu by Makaarem tasted victory when he came from the back of the field after a slow start to fly away at the death and win the Merit Rated 92 Handicap over 1600m. This win goes to illustrate the immense success of the Ready To Run programme as a whole, and should be a good indicator to both trainers and buyers alike of the potential champions of the future that are being nurtured and trained here at Summerhill.
