The 1st August marks the end of the past Racing year, and the beginning of the new. The Breeder’s Championship may well be in the bag, courtesy of a record R14million plus in earnings, but the stark reality is that today, the odometer is pressed back to nought. There’s not a single Rand registered for Summerhill as of this morning, so statistically at least, the memories of last season are consigned to history. Not that it will deter us from relishing the Championship, nor celebrating its occurrence. The hat trick hasn’t in any way dimmed the height of the pleasure, nor the immensity of the honour. The Sporting Post for this weekend carries a toast to the celebration, and pretty much sums up the way we’re feeling.
