Highlight of a very competitive weekend’s racing, was the battle of the Trainer titans. As the Weekend of The Stars approached, all of Charles Laird, Geoff Woodruff and Mike De Kock were in with a shout, and as events unfolded, with both Gilded Minaret & Kildonan going down for the De Kock stable, Geoff Woodruff pulled himself from third to first.

ArgonautArgonaut (Photo Gold Circle)Argonaut’s remarkable victory in the Premier’s Champion Juvenile (Gr1) not only helped the process, but made certain of the Colt’s Championship, and it won’t be midday today before the international offers start rolling in. The world of racing has become so competitive that the superpowers will pounce on every obvious opportunity, and this one is gilt-edged. We’d guess he’s worth every cent of R10 million, not bad for a horse that started out as a R400 000 yearling.

Some charts have Woodruff R125 k in front, others R75 k, and events at the Vaal tomorrow (& Turffontein yesterday) could still influence who wears the crown.
