The G1 English and Irish 2000 Guineas winner was sent off the even-money favorite for the one-mile contest at Royal Ascot, but failed to hit the board after drifting left in the closing stages. After the initial prognosis of a pulled muscle yesterday morning, a later scan revealed that Cockney Rebel had suffered a more serious injury. “We got him to the surgery this morning and gave him a scan which showed the fracture,” trainer Geoff Huffer told PA Sport. “It’s not life-threatening, but that’s racing, I’m afraid. It’s too early to say, but he could be out for a month or two. He will have the best treatment any horse can have and will be brought back as good as ever—if not better.”
