Hard on HAIZI’s Saturday’s heels, Craig Eudey’s THANDOLWAMI
(R80 000 at the 2006 Nationals) ran a more than creditable 2nd on Stakes debut in the Byerley Turk (Gr 3) on Sunday.

Off to the veritable flyer in his first season as a trainer, Craig got lucky at the sales when this youngster, off a reserve price of R100 000, was struggling at R80 000 in the ring. As unlikely as it may sound, when we discovered the bid was with him, we instructed the auctioneer to give his new yard the “push” it might need, and knock THANDOLWAMI down.

Whilst he seems to be doing dead right anyway, this was Craig’s first Black type scorer, and it looks to be the first of many for him and his drinking mates from Hillcrest.
