In what is yet another world first, it was announced at the gallops on Friday that the big race on 3rd November at Turffontein would enjoy Listed status, making it the first race of its kind in the world to enjoy this standing.

Without any prompting from us, the Graded Stakes committee obviously felt that with its stake of R500 000 (increasing to R1 million next year), and the exceptional stakes success of Ready To Run graduates, the race was more than worthy of Black type. This is an added fillip to those who not only buy on the sale, but to those who breed for it. It won’t be terribly long before the Ready To Run concept catches on across the board with South Africa’s customers, as the odds in favour of the buyer of qualifying for a R1 million event on the back of a catalogue of less than 150 horses, coupled with the Black type incentive, are almost irresistible.
