It may have been disheartening for local breeders to see the results of the four Stakes races staged at Turffontein on Saturday, when three of the four races were gobbled up by Australian imports, with Profit Report, Uber Rock and Our Giant dominating proceedings. Though Our Giant later had his number taken down in the steward’s room, the one crowd that will be smiling at the results is the Summerhill Ready To Run team.
The reason is that we have nine Australian-breds in our draft for the Ready To Run Sale, each by the world’s leading shuttle sires, including the new “Mr. Prospector” of American breeding Street Cry, World Champion racehorses Hawk Wing and Fantastic Light, Champion first and second season Australian sire Show A Heart, three by seven time South American Champion sire Hussonet, one by Champion Sire Danehill Dancer, and one by Darley’s dual Group One winner and Champion European miler, Dubai Destination.
This is a remarkable “first” for the Ready To Run, and quite apart from the variety it brings to the catalogue, the international dimension these horses lend to the sale will make next year’s R1 million Emperor’s Palace Ready To Run Sweepstakes an altogether more interesting affair. Most importantly, these horses are already here, and they’ll save buyers the airfare from here to Sydney and back, as well as the exorbitant transport costs involved in bring a horse to South Africa.
