Atoning his 3 length defeat in Deauville’s Gr 1 Prix Maurice de Gheest earlier this month, the South African trained Linngari scored a 3/4 length victory over Donatello and Soave in Germany’s premier sprint race - the Gr 2 de Goldene Peitsche Stakes - at Baden-Baden (Germany) last Saturday.

In a small field of 7 runners, Linngari sat 3 lengths off the pace, quickening a furlong from home and keeping his challengers at bay in a winning time of 1m 11.76s.

Linngari forms part of the Herman Brown string but whilst in France all horses are in the care of French trainer Diego Lowther. Herman was, however, on course in Germany for Saturday’s race.

A Listed winner last September when in the care of Sir Michael Stoute, Linngari was trained in Dubai over the winter where he won two Group events on the turf - the Gr 3 Dubal Al Rashidiya (1777m) followed by a second victory later that month in the Gr 2 Al Rostamani Group Al Fahidi Fort (1600m). Unfortunately he finished at the back of the field in the Dubai Duty Free on World Cup Night.

Duty Free result now aside, the Aga-Khan bred 4YO remains a central player in Brown’s planned assault on the 2007 Dubai International Racing Carnival; Saturday’s win the first step in realizing that goal. With Saturday’s victory the chestnut son of Indian Ridge has also demonstrated his versatility having won over both sprint and mile distances.
