The success of the Two Years in Training Sale concept continues to spread with news that Tattersalls is to stage a second Breeze Up Sale in 2007.
The new sale will take place on Friday 4th May which is the day before the two day Newmarket Guineas Meeting and will be named the Tattersalls Guineas Breeze Up Sale.
Tattersalls will aim to catalogue between 125 and 150 two-year-olds for the new sale, with all lots breezing adjacent to the Rowley Mile Racecourse on the same universally acclaimed strip of ground used for the principal breeze up in April. Each lot will ‘breeze’ on Thursday 3rd May prior to the one day sale taking place the following day.
Commenting on the new sale, Tattersalls Chairman Edmond Mahony said:
“Having established the Tattersalls Breeze Up as Europe’s premier two-year-olds in training sale we felt that the time was right to stage a second sale and Guineas weekend provides the perfect focal point for a new breeze up sale. The impetus for the new sale has come not only from the spectacular sale ring results but also from the racetrack achievements of the sale graduates. Last year’s Tattersalls Breeze Up produced a higher percentage of Group 1 winning two-year-olds than any other 2005 two-year-olds in training sale and the 2006 sale has already produced the unbeaten Group 2 winner HAMOODY. Both purchasers and vendors like the proven Tattersalls Breeze Up format and we are keen to cater for the increased demand and also to provide an outlet for two-year-olds which may benefit from that little bit of extra time to mature.”
Looking at the Breeze Up concept from a South African perspective, this type of sale has been improving by the year. The 2006/7 season is but 2 weeks young and already 3 of the best 3 year old winners we have seen have all been graduates of the Summerhill Ready to Race programme. (If you like a bet then all 3 horses are well worth adding to your black book):
- BARAHINS JEWEL (ALBARAHIN ex GENEROUS JEWEL) for Denis Drier scorched the turf in a hard-held canter last week.
- OUTCOME (MUHTAFAL ex CULMINATE) won very convincingly for Mike Miller
- EMPEROR NAPOLEON (KAHAL - ELLINORE) trained by Mike De Kock has now won 3 from 3 and (not surprisingly) has more than a few people talking.
Whether it is the chance of ‘ready returns’ for investors, the appeal to those of us who are less patient in life , the ability for a buyer to assess a horse on ability as well as conformation/pedigree alone … or whether it is the price differential - whatever the reason for the growing appeal of horses in training, you simply can’t argue with the fact that the Ready to Race graduate is succeeding around the globe.
17 August update - yet another winner from the Summerhill Ready to Run graduate list - this time EVANESCE who won Race 6 at the Vaal today - the R75K - UK SOCCER 6 FM 78 HANDICAP (Open) for Fillies & Mares over 1200m. Ridden by Weichong Marwing, EVANESCE trounced the field by 3 lengths. EVANESCE was a 2004 Sales Graduate and ably assisted her new owners by winning her first start just 2 weeks after the sale!
