Our great friend Noreen Walker passed away peacefully yesterday, after a long illness. Simply put, she was a remarkable human being. To everyone at Summerhill she was not just a marvellous friend, but she was the most supportive, creative and industrious business associate imaginable.
In our earliest years, she was the brains and the inspiration behind the annual Summerhill Sires brochure, and Pro-Print where she was the power behind the throne, has just printed our 18th edition. Her phenomenal spirit was never more aptly demonstrated than in her promise, just 10 days ago, that she would still be around to produce at least one more.
Noreen loved life and above all she loved to laugh and she loved a party. She also loved the ponies and a tilt at the tote, and until four days ago she was still picking her “pick sixes”. During a recent blood transfusion, she was heard to remark that the reason they were struggling to find her blood type lay in the scarcity of alcoholic punting donors. And this was just a few days ago.
We all loved her dearly and our heartfelt sympathies go out to her husband Michael and her son, Jason, and his family. No doubt, Noreen’s memory will be preserved in Jason’s first child, which is due in a few months.
Mick Goss and the entire Summerhill team.
